Ex: building a platoon of troops, or a division of tanks would take X amount of minutes to completion until they were ready for deployment - and that was dependent upon the necessary factories, munitions, training camps, and supply lines could be maintained or conversely disrupted. However to make this game a standard real-time operation wouldn't work either unless it was sort of a time based game. The reason these time periods function (Shogun, Medieval, Empire/Napoleon, Rome) is because it took time for things to be mobilized, thus a turn-based game sort of make sense as a way to rationalize how the game progresses.īut I don't think turn-based would seem at all realistic or justifiable given how modern armies are raised and deployed - simply put it would break the immersion to leave it turn-based. The difficulty would be the constant movement and rapid mobilization of modern armies.
